Ministry of Public Works and MCG Associates Host Workshop to Advance Construction Sector Standardization in Somalia

Mogadishu, Somalia – July 2, 2025 — The Ministry of Public Works, in collaboration with MCG Associates, convened a high-level technical workshop under the theme Strengthening the Construction Sector through Standardization.The one-day event brought together senior ministry officials, practicing engineers, and sector stakeholders for an in-depth dialogue on reforming Somalia’s construction industry.

The workshop focused on identifying and addressing systemic challenges such as fragmented construction standards, limited regulatory oversight, and outdated operational practices. Through a highly participatory format, participants explored practical approaches to harmonize standards, enhance regulatory frameworks, and build institutional capacities to improve quality, safety, and sustainability in the sector.

“This initiative marks a critical step toward modernizing Somalia’s construction industry,” said a Ministry spokesperson. “By standardizing practices and strengthening institutions, we can lay a solid foundation for resilient infrastructure and sustainable development.”

The event is part of MCG Associates’ broader mandate to support public sector transformation through capacity building, policy innovation, and institutional reform. The workshop also served as a collaborative platform for knowledge exchange, consensus-building, and charting a clear roadmap toward regulatory modernization and sectoral coherence.

The Ministry and its partners reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the construction sector in alignment with national development priorities and international best practices.
